Stevenson Trust, Social Sciences hub
Date: Thursday 24 April 2025
Time: 18:00 - 19:30
Venue: Boyd Orr Building, University of Glasgow University Avenue Glasgow G12 8SP
Category: Public lectures, Social events, Academic events, Student events, Alumni events
Speaker: Professors Rita Abrahamsen and Michael C. Williams
This event will explore how today’s radical Right is not just a nationalist project but a transnational movement reshaping political and social systems worldwide. The speakers will examine how radical conservative thinkers strategically challenge liberal globalisation, uniting different groups against a perceived global elite.
While not a single, unified movement, radical conservatism’s emphasis on national sovereignty and cultural identity allows it to align with authoritarian states like China and Russia, as well as actors in the Global South. What does this mean for the future of the liberal world order?
