In June, Elaine Butler and I, Ellen Macdonald, attended a weeklong training course at Roche Diagnostics headquarters in Burgess Hill. The training course focused on the operation of the Roche Cobas Pro 801 Analyser, a new addition to the GlasBRU lab as part of our continued collaboration with the Roche Glasgow CoCE-HF.

The Roche Cobas Pro 801 is an automated analyser utilised for the running of quantitative immunochemistry assays, using ElectroChemiLuminescence (ECL) technology. The cobas pro is highly intuitive and benefits from a significantly greater throughput than our existing analysers. The introduction of the cobas pro contributes to and enhances the efficiency and performance of the GlasBRU lab.

The course provided us with an in-depth understanding of the running, maintenance and troubleshooting of the analyser. Following this training, we feel confident and competent in the effective running of the cobas pro analyser for future studies.

Our time in Burgess Hill also allowed us to tour Roche’s impressive UK headquarters and connect with staff we interact with regularly. As well as this, we had the opportunity to meet other working professionals from different fields and hear about their experience with Roche.
