Liz Chege trained as an architect and town planner, and has more than a decade of interdisciplinary experience as a critic and curator for cinema and film festivals. She has served on multiple international film festival juries and is a Berlinale Talent alumni.

For her PhD, she aims to build upon her research and interest in Black diaspora visual culture, GeoHumanities, psychogeography, and urban studies. Her research will focus on the medium of film, and examine how power imbalances manifest in creative partnerships, how civic art can best be utilised to address the world's most pressing problems and the entangled complexities of cultural identity.
