Adam is a multidisciplinary classical pianist, composer, and conductor. He earned a 1st Class Bachelor in Music from the Royal Academy of Music in London, before completing an MPhil in Music at University of Cambridge.

His MPhil thesis combined both musicology and sociology, discussing the semantics of Algerian Raï music from a postcolonial perspective. His PhD also looks at musical decoloniality, focussing a rare manuscript by 18th century Franco-Guadeloupean composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges.

As a JMS scholar, Adam plans to initiate a programme of outreach and public engagement, through which he endeavours to widen participation in classical music, and to promote awareness of Black practitioners within the Arts.
