I very much enjoyed Glasgow Crucible and think this is something every early-career scholar committed to Glasgow University should do at some point. In hindsight, there are three things that I’ve found particularly useful about the programme:

1) Cross-disciplinary networking. Networking is invaluable in my work and GC provides a safe and friendly space to do so. If you’re thinking of finding collaborators at Glasgow University beyond your immediate discipline, GC is a must!

2) Testimonials from colleagues who ‘made it’. I find learning about the rocky journeys of senior colleagues not only eye-opening, but also genuinely helpful. GC didn’t disappoint!

3) Inspiring examples of research impact outside of academia. We’re all expected to work towards societal impact, but many of us struggle with the practical side of it. GC allowed me to re-think impact in detail by offering real-life case studies, out-of-the-box ideas, local opportunities and some tested solutions. I’ve found it way more useful than impact training offered elsewhere.
