The Scottish Society of Playwrights (SSP) was founded in 1973 to promote the interests and develop the craft of professional playwrights working within the Scottish theatre sector. Funded and run entirely by its member playwrights and affiliated to the Scottish Trades Union Congress, it is primarily a lobbying and representative body, acting as advocate for Scottish playwrights, on both an individual and collective level, with employers and funding organisations. Managed by its members and an elected council, it also organises occasional public events, and is a strong supporter of the Playwrights' Studio, Scotland .
