Clydebank born comedian Lex McLean (Alexander McLean Cameron) was born on 30 April 1907 at 6 Rosebery Place, Clydebank, Dunbartonshire. He was the son of Donald (Daniel) Cameron (c.1871–1951), ironmoulder, and his second wife, Mary Howe McLean (1876–1948), greengrocer. He began his career as an organist playing at the Pavilion Theatre, Clydebank. In the post-War years McLean became a huge star in variety and pantomime shows appearing all over Scotland. Sometimes his material was a bit rude and he got the name Sexy Lexy because of his comedy patter and content of his sketches.
Lex McLean died at his home, 2 Cumberland Avenue, Helensburgh, from pneumonia on 23 March 1975, and was cremated at Clydebank crematorium on 26 March 1975.
