The late Rikki Fulton OBE, (1924-2004) actor and comedian, was born on 15 April 1924 at 46 Appin Road, Dennistoun, Glasgow, the third and youngest son of John Fulton and Margaret McMillan. After leaving school at fourteen, he worked as a customs clerk before volunteering for the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve at the age of seventeen In 1945 he was invalided out of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, where he was Sub-Lt.
Back in Glasgow, whilst working as a manufacturer's agent, Rikki joined the amateur theatre group the Pantheon Club and soon gained his first radio work with the B.B.C. 1956 saw the beginning of a ten year long association with the production company Howard and Wyndham, appearing in numerous pantomimes and revue shows, including The Five Past Eight Show. In 1960 he appeared in A Wish for Jamie at the Alhambra, Glasgow. This proved so successful it was repeated the following year, playing to 427,000 people and spawned two sequels
Perhaps his most renowned characters was his 'Josie' to Jack Milroy's 'Francie' in the double act Francie & Josie. Apart from his partnership with Milroy, Fulton made numerous pantomimes and television appearances throughout his career. Probably best known as the Rev. I.M. Jolly in his popular Hogmanay TV show, Scotch and Rye. He appeared in various films including Gorky Park and Local Hero. In 1981 Rikki starred in the Scottish Theatre Company's production of Let Wives Tak tent .
He was Scottish TV Personality of the year in 1963 and 1979 and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award, Bafta Scotland, in 1993.
Rikki Fulton died on 27 January 2004 at the Quayside Nursing Home, Glasgow.
