Borderline Theatre Company

This collection includes scripts, designs, photographs, posters, presscuttings and programmes.

Borderline was set up in 1974 on the initiative of Brian and Shelagh Tutchener and the committee of Irvine's Harbour Arts Centre. Initially based at the Harbour Arts Centre, the company moved home in 1978 to larger premises in the town, and in 1986 to Darlington Church in North Harbour Street, Ayr. As of 2014, the company is working out of the town's Gaiety Theatre.

Borderline staged its first production, The Knack, by Ann Jellicoe. Three years later the company were selling-out London's Royal Court Theatre with Billy Connolly's An Me Wi A Bad Leg Tae.

Borderline's reputation for presenting quality theatre grew with productions such as When hair was long and time was short, winner of the company's first Fringe First award, John Byrne's Cara Coco, a ground breaking Dick Whittington starring Robbie Coltraine and a string of successes with Dario Fo plays including Can't pay, won't pay and Trumpets and Raspberries.
