6253   Good hert makith the good thought;
6254   The clothing yeveth ne reveth nought.
6255   The good thought and the worching,
6256   That makith the religioun flowryng,
6257   Ther lyth the good religioun
6258   Aftir the right entencioun.
6259   'Who so took a wethers skynne,
6260   And wrapped a gredy wolf therynne,
6261   ffor he shulde go with lambis whyte,
6262   Wenest thou not he wolde hem bite?
6263   Yhis! neverthelasse, as he were woode,
6264   He wolde hem wery, and drinke the bloode;
6265   And wel the rather hem disceyve,
6266   ffor, sith they cowde not pceyve
6267   His treget and his cruelte,
6268   They wolde hym folowe, al wolde he fle.
6269   'Iff ther be wolves of sich hewe
6270   Amonges these apostlis newe,
6271   Thou, hooly chirche, thou maist biwailed!
6272   Sith that thy citee is Assayled
6273   Thourgh knyghtis of thyn owne table,
6274   God wote thi lordship is doutable!
6275   If thei enforce it to wynne,
