1867   That I agayn fell in swonyng,
1868   And sighede sore in compleynyng.
1869   Soore I compleyned that my sore
1870   On me gan greven more and more.
1871   I hadde noon hope of Allegeaunce;
1872   So nygh I drowe to desperaunce,
1873   I rought of deth ne of lyf,
1874   Whader that love wolde me dryf.
1875   Yf me a martir wolde he make,
1876   I myght his power nought forsake.
1877   And while for anger thus I woke,
1878   The god of love an arowe toke;
1879   fful sharpe it was and pugnaunt,
1880   And it was callid faire semblaunt,
1881   The which in no wise wole consente,
1882   That ony lover hym repente
1883   To serve his love with herte and All,
1884   ffor ony pill that may bifall.
1885   But though this arwe was kene grounde
1886   As ony rasour that is founde,
1887   To kutte and kerve, at the poynt,
1888   The god of love it hadde Anoynt
1889   With a precious oynement,
1890   Somdell to yeve a leggement
