1173   A lord may have no maner vice
1174   That greveth more than Avarice.
1175   ffor nygart never with strengthe of honde
1176   May wynne gret lordship or londe.
1177   ffor freendis all to fewe hath he
1178   To doon his will pfourmed be.
1179   And who so wole have freendis here,
1180   He may not holde his tresour deere.
1181   ffor by ensample I tell this,
1182   Right as an adamaund, ywys,
1183   Can drawen to hym sotylly
1184   The iren, that is leid therby,
1185   So drawith folkis hertis, ywys,
1186   Silver and gold that yeven is.
1187   Largesse hadde on a robe fresh
1188   Of riche purpur Sarlynysh
1189   Wel fourmed was hir face and cleere,
1190   And opened hadde she hir colere;
1191   ffor she right there hadde in present
1192   Unto a lady maad present
1193   Of a gold broche, ful wel wrought.
