837   And with gold beten fetysly,
838   His body was clad ful richely.
839   Wrought was his robe in straunge gise,
840   And al toslytered for queyntise
841   In many a place, lowe and hie.
842   And shode he was with grete maistrie,
843   With shoon decoped, and with laas.
844   By drury, and by solas,
845   His leef a rosyn chapelet
846   Hadde made, and on his heed it set.
847   And wite ye who was his leef?
848   Dame gladnesse there was him so leef,
849   That syngith so wel with glad courage,
850   That from she was xii yeer of Age,
851   She of hir love graunt hym made.
852   Sir mirthe hir by the fynger hadde
853   Daunsyng, and she him Also;
854   Grete love was atwixe hem two.
855   Bothe were they faire and bright of hewe;
856   She semede lyke a rose newe
857   Of colour, and hir flesh so tendre,
858   That with a brere smale and slendre
859   Men myght it cleve, I dar wel seye.
860   Hir forheed, frounceles al pleye.
