In the latest episode of The Teaching and Scholarship Podcast, Dr Ashley Lewis-Cole discusses her involvement in driving the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiative at the University of Glasgow.
Launching last summer, COIL is a new initiative at the University, aiming to offer our student population opportunities for a more diverse cultural experience through their learning, especially when it’s not possible to travel.
As a means of Internationalisation at Home experience, COIL has been found in many Universities to have a positive impact on students’ employability by providing them with opportunities to further develop soft skills such as being an effective communicator an a reflective learner as well as qualities specified in the University of Glasgow graduate attributes. This can ultimately provide students with confidence to enter the global, multicultural, digitally competent workforce.
Ashley is a Learning & Teaching Strategy Manager at Glasgow. With a wider role in policy and governance, Ashley uses this podcast to focus on how her work increases the benefits of cultural diversity in undergraduate teaching at Glasgow, and how initiatives like COIL can enrich the student experience.
