At Welcome Week, we surveyed over 448 students at our Student Learning & Experiences stall to find out more about their expectations and concerns when it comes to University. Of those surveyed, 85% were new to the University.
We found, from those surveyed, that students find learning and socialising to be the top two drivers when it comes to their student experience at the University of Glasgow. Over a quarter of students surveyed (26%) said that the most important part of the student experience is learning and study. Following this, 24% said socialising, making friends and meeting new people, while 12% said the University lifestyle, culture and community.
Money is a huge concern for students, with 44% stating financial pressures as their biggest concern when it comes to developing skills at University. Equally, at 44%, students fear that time constraints have an impact on their development of skills. While 20% of those surveyed said that they didn’t know where to start or get help when it comes to developing skills.
As students embark on their university journey, balancing academic ambitions, social connections, and financial responsibilities will shape their overall experience. The Learning & Teaching Strategy Unit and the Student Experience Strategy team are using these results to help inform their ongoing work improving the student learning and experiences. Keep tuned in to the newsletter to hear updates to our survey learnings as we check in with students throughout the rest of the year.
