Dr Nic Labrosse leads the University’s activities around inclusive assessment in quantitative disciplines.

“Inclusive assessment” is the process by which all students have equitable opportunities to learn through assessment, and are treated equitably throughout the assessment and feedback process. It is one of the four pillars of our Learning Through Assessment framework and a key aspect of our Accessible and Inclusive Learning Policy.

The Inclusive Assessment in Quantitative Disciplines (IAQD) working group has representatives from the School of Mathematics and Statistics (Jim Belk), Economics (Wenya Cheng), James Watt School of Engineering (Stuart Grey), Schooo of Computing Science (Joe Maguire), Schoool of Chemistry (Linnea Soler), and School of Physics and Astronomy (Fiona Speirits). The group is also fortunate to have the expertise of Academic and Digital Development Adviser Errol Jones Rivera and two SRC members (Heri Busquier Cerdan and Claudia Prime) representing our students.

When discussing the IAQD Group, Nic said:

“Over the past nine months (the IAQD group) have been reviewing current assessment practices in quantitative disciplines both within our University and across the sector. They are developing resources to supplement what is already available in the Assessment & Feedback Resources Hub, all with the aim of helping colleagues implement more inclusive assessment and feedback practices.”

The IAQD group is now offering support in the form of one-off drop-in sessions or repeated scheduled meetings to all colleagues who want to discuss assessment in their courses or programmes. The IAQD goal is to identify and eliminate potential barriers that could hinder student engagement with assessment, enabling staff to design courses that support more inclusive assessments.
