As Deputy Chief Adviser of Science, Dr Colette Mair has an international focus on how to advise and support postgraduate taught students.
As the PGT experience is significantly different from the undergraduate or postgraduate research student experiences, it is Colette's hope that within this role she can contribute towards developing a PGT advising system fit for purpose.
Colette is also a Lecturer in Statistics at the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Since joining the University in 2019, she has been heavily involved with the online distance learning MSc programme in Data Analytics and advising many PGT students, as well as being part of the teaching team on an on-campus version of a similar programme.
When asked about her role, Colette said:
“Undeniably this has been, and continues to be, testing, demanding and challenging, but over time I have grown to appreciate the wealth of experiences and knowledge I have, and continue to, develop. I would rate working with PGT students to be the most valuable part of my job.”
