Elizabeth Bishop in Glasgow: A Symposium

June 26 - June 28 2024

Elizabeth Bishop in Glasgow: A Symposium

The event will bring scholars, students, writers, translators and readers from around the world together to explore the work of American poet, Elizabeth Bishop (1911-79).

The Glasgow location offers, for the first time, an opportunity to consider Bishop’s work in a Scottish-Atlantic critical, cultural and historical context and to explore the profound influence of Scottish poets such as Robert Burns – whose poems Bishop was familiar with from childhood – on her own style. Equally, the Symposium will consider the influence that Bishop and her contemporaries had on Scottish writers up to the present day.

Tickets

The registration fee includes participation in all scheduled activities at the symposium (panels, keynote talks, drinks reception) and includes morning and afternoon light refreshments and lunches on Weds 26th, Thurs 27th and Fri 28th June (or, for delegates who choose the "day rate" only, the above for the 1 or 2 days in question). The fee does not include overnight accommodation or travel.
