Shirin Hirsch joins Sociology at the University of Glasgow in September 2015. She will be working as a Research Associate on a project on ethnicity, race and racism in Scotland, directed by Andrew Smith and Satnam Virdee.

Previously, Shirin was based at the University of Manchester and in 2014 worked on a European project on 'second generation' refugees, undertaking qualitative research in London. She has just published an article from her thesis on the coup in Chile and labour internationalism in the UK, and another on Chilean exiles and the return process to Chile. She is now working on an article on 'second generation' refugees, multilingualism and the state which uses data from her current project.
