Film is a powerful tool for responding to research and communicating beyond the academy. In this event, we will engage with an example of how Dr Cairsti Russell and colleagues developed a film-based response to her PhD research in Sociology at the University of Glasgow.

Freedom to Run follows runners from Right to Movement in Palestine and a group from Glasgow, as they train for and run both the Palestine and Edinburgh marathons. It uses marathon running to explore the restrictions on freedom of movement imposed on Palestinians by Israel. Using a sociological perspective and guided by sociological research, Freedom to Run makes these issues accessible to those outside the academy.

The session will begin with a brief sketch of the research that the film responds to, before screening the film.

This will be followed by a Q&A and drinks reception.
