Published: 29 January 2025
Congratulations to Dr Erin McNulty, who graduated with her PhD this past December.
Dr Erin McNulty, a previous PhD student and now research associate in SMLC, graduated with her PhD on 9th December! Her thesis, which focused on the sociolinguistics of the minoritized Celtic language of the Isle of Man, was titled "’Cre’n sorçh dy Ghaelg t’ou loayrt nish?’ (‘What kind of Manx are you speaking now?’): The Intersection of Ideologies and Morphosyntactic Variation in New Speakers of Manx Gaelic”. Erin’s thesis was co-supervised across SMLC, English Language and Linguistics, and Celtic and Gaelic, and was passed without corrections at her viva in June 2024. You can read more about her work here.
Erin, pictured right with her main supervisor Prof. Bernie O’Rourke, were all smiles after the graduation champagne reception.
