Equivariant stable homotopy theory and parametrized higher category theory workshop

There will be a four-day workshop in Glasgow, from 7th until 10th December 2015, featuring a series of talks by Clark Barwick on equivariant stable homotopy theory and higher category theory and other talks. CMALS event

The Centre for Mathematics Applied to Life Sciences (CMALS) will be hosting a mini-event on the afternoon of Wednesday 16th December 2015 in lecture theatre 515 of the Mathematics Building. This event will comprise talks by Prof Boyce Griffith (University of North Carolina) and Dr Martin Meere (NUI Galway). The event will start with tea and coffee at 3.10pm, with talks commencing at 3.30pm.

2016 UK MHD meeting

The 2016 UK MHD meeting will be organized by Radostin Simitev, David MacTaggart and David Fearn at the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

‌Integrability in algebra, geometry and physics: new trends

‌Misha Feigin co-organised the conference "Integrability in algebra, geometry and physics:  new trends" which was held in July 2015 at Congressi Stefano Franscini in Switzerland, the meeting platform of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich (ETH Zurich).

It gathered key experts in integrable systems and related areas from Europe, USA, Russia, India and Japan and was an occasion to celebrate 60th birthday of Alexander Veselov.

WEFWEBs project launch

‌The WEFWEBs launch event was held on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th October 2015.  WEFWEBs is one of three EPSRC funded projects researching the water-energy- food nexus.  This WEF nexus phrase has been coined to capture the interconnections between water, energy and food systems at global, national and regional scales. 

The project partners from Imperial College London, Open Lab at Newcastle University, Rothamsted Research, University of Cambridge, University College London, University of Exeter and the University of Oxford, came together for two days to begin the process of planning the workshops, data collection, assimilation and modelling and modelling that will form the core of the project.   Our partners come from many different disciplines which makes this project especially exciting.

Manchester-Southampton-Glasgow (MSG) seminar series

Organised by Antony Overstall, the first meeting of the Manchester-Southampton-Glasgow (MSG) seminar series on design of experiments took place in the school on Wednesday 28th October 2015. You can read more about the series by accessing the following link: https://msgdoe.wordpress.com/

ARTIN 46 meeting

The 46th ARTIN (Algebra and Representation Theory In the North) meeting took place on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November 2015 within our School. The meeting was organised by Ghislain Fourier and was funded by a Glasgow Mathematical Journal (GMJ) grant.

Talks by a number of excellent national and international speakers meant the meeting was exceptionally well attended. Around 40 participants enjoyed the two day event, with a slight focus on the talks about degenerations of flag varieties.
