Participants from the summer school stood together as a group on the steps outside the UofG Boyd Orr Building

Facilitated by Professor Thomas Otto and PhD students Olympia Hardy and Ross Laidlaw, the Glasgow Bioinformatics Summer School 2024 ran from Monday 19 to Friday 30 August.

Fifty-nine participants from four continents travelled to Glasgow to learn about Linux, R, genomics, transcriptomics, and especially single-cell Transcriptomics and spatial analysis.

Professor Otto said: "It was great to see that the group task presentations on Fridays were a success, and everyone showed what they learned. Very impressive!

"It seems that the participants get better every year - or we get even better at teaching.

"Sadly, our Loch Lomond trip was wetter than expected. However, all those making it to the top of Conic Hill were happy in The Bothy for their well-earned Sunday roast!"

  • The Bioinformatics team would like to thank Julie Kavanagh for the tremendous administrative support, Scott for setting up the servers, Yiyi, Joy, Andrew, Brenda, Fiona, Saikou, Will, Jack, and Domenico for helping with the teaching - and the participants for these fantastic two weeks.
