University of Glasgow On-Campus Hult Prize Competition
On February 26th, 2024, the University of Glasgow proudly hosted its inaugural Hult Prize On-Campus program. This prestigious global competition seeks to support emerging social enterprises dedicated to addressing challenges outlined in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering a grand prize of one million dollars to the winner.
Our team, comprised of professionals from the Master of Public Health and Global Mental Health programmes, held regular meetings to perfect our million-dollar startup idea. Drawing on our diverse backgrounds and experiences, we combined our unique skills and insights to create RAFA Health, which we then presented at the competition.
The event took place at the St Andrews building, where we faced off against other innovative startups from the University. Each team showcased exceptional ideas tackling different SDGs, while we focused on SDG3. Our team leveraged our presentation and communication skills throughout the intense competition, ultimately securing the position of first runner-up.
As we reflect on the competition, we recognize how our varied backgrounds and experiences enriched our ability to develop a promising startup aimed at addressing mental health accessibility in low and middle-income nations.
Our journey continued, selected from 10,000 total applications worldwide to join 360 teams at the Hult Prize Global Summit. Armed with valuable feedback from judges and professionals in the startup space, we are refining our pitch to compete against the 360 startups, with the hope of being one of the 6 finalists to present in London at the global final in September.
We were excited to announce our invitation to the summit, taking place in Monterrey from June 14-16th. It is an honour to represent the MVLS and the University of Glasgow at this prestigious event.
