IHW's Professor Ewan Macdonald has been appointed to the Occupational Health Expert Group, established by the Work and Health Unit of the Department of Health and Social Care, London.
The remit of this group is to champion, shape and drive the future Occupational Health Strategy, supporting the UK Government’s commitment to set-out proposals for reform by 2019/20; looking at:
- building the evidence base;
- potential funding models and where responsibility for OH support should fall;
- methods for improving quality of existing provision e.g. accreditation of services, staff and training;
- emerging new models of provision and local place-based models to integrate work and health support across the health pathway;
- exploiting the potential of technology as a way to help people access the advice they need easily and quickly;
- workforce development so we have the OH capacity we need in the future.
