SHW colleagues on list of highly cited researchers
Published: 16 November 2023
Once again, researchers from our school have appeared on the latest Clarivate list of the most highly cited researchers for 2023. Find out who, and what featuring on this important list means to them, their team and their work...
The Clarivate list identifies the small fraction of the global research scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research. This select group contribute disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge and gaining for society innovations that make the world healthier, more sustainable and more secure.
We are delighted to pass on the news that no less than five School of Health and Wellbeing researchers appear on the 2023 list.
Vittal Katikireddi
Professor (MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit)
On the news of his listing, Vittal reflected: "I’ve been very fortunate to learn from and work with many exceptional researchers at Glasgow to develop our research on health inequalities. Particular thanks for the hard work put in by all members of the team and to our funders for helping us carry out this work."
Frances Mair
Norie Miller Professor of General Practice (General Practice and Primary Care)
Frances appears on this list for the second time. She is the first primary care researcher, who is still clinically active in general practice in Scotland to receive this recognition. She attributes much of her success to the fantastic team she works with at GPPC and more widely in the School of Health and Wellbeing as well as her enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research.
Rich Mitchell
Professor (MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit)
Rich has appeared on this list every year since 2018. He attributes his listing to work with generous colleagues from a wide range of disciplines, inside and outside the University, and to his brilliant team in SPHSU. He is surprised but delighted to have been listed for so long...
Rory O'Connor
Chair in Health Psychology (Mental Health & Wellbeing)
On hearing the news, Rory commented: "I am delighted to see our suicide prevention and mental health research recognised in this way. Sincere thanks to all of my collaborators and funders, without whom our research would not have been possible. And huge gratitude to all those affected by suicide, self-harm and mental health problems who have taken part in our research"
Jill Pell
Professor of Public Health/Head of School of Health and Wellbeing
Speaking on behalf of the school as a whole, Jill commented: "It is gratifying to see five researchers from SHW on the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list. We prioritise research that can impact health but this can only be achieved if publications are read and shared widely. This accolade demonstrates that this aspiration is being achieved."
