Dr Khaldon Alareqi and Prof Colin McInnes showcased their work on Orbiting Solar Reflectors at IET Powering Net Zero Conference 2024
Researchers from the University of Glasgow's Space and Exploration Technology (SET) Group participated in the IET Powering Net Zero Conference, held in Birmingham from 3 to 6 Dec 2024. Dr Khaldon Alareqi and Prof Colin McInnes showcased their work on Orbiting Solar Reflectors, part of the European Research Council funded SOLSPACE project, a cutting-edge concept designed to redirect sunlight to terrestrial solar power farms during dawn and dusk, addressing critical gaps in solar energy production. Their poster and accompanying paper explored the integration of Orbiting Solar Reflectors with terrestrial solar farms to enhance energy output, reduce CO₂ emissions, and stabilize power grids. Prof McInnes also delivered an invited case study on the SOLSPACE project. This pioneering research contributes to global efforts to combat climate change and achieve net-zero emission goals.
