50 leaders in engineering elected to Academy Fellowship

5th September 2017 - Prof David Cumming, Chair of Electronic Systems, elected Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering
Fifty of the UK’s top engineers have been elected as Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering, in a stellar list that includes some of the world’s leading innovators and business people. This year our Head of School, and Chair of Electronic Systems, Prof David Cumming joins the ranks.
The new Fellows will be formally admitted to the Academy at its AGM in London today (Tuesday 5th September, 2017), in addition to two new International Fellows and one Honorary Fellow, who will add their expertise to the Fellowship of 1,500 world-leading engineers from both industry and academia.

'Dr David Cumming is a world-leading researcher in microelectronic technologies for biotechnology and diagnostic purposes whose work has had major industrial impact.
Outputs from his research led to the creation of Mode Diagnostics Ltd, a successful university spin-out that now sells its diagnostic device in Boots, and US startup Ion Torrent Inc., which devised the world’s first microelectronics-based gene-sequencing system and was sold for $725 million in 2010.'
