International Congress on Children’s Literature Starts

For the first time in 50 years, the biannual Congress of the International Research Society for Children’s Literature is being hosted in Latin America and is taking place online. A group of staff and students from SoE are presenting papers.
The biannual Congress of the International Research Society for Children’s Literature (IRSCL) was due to take place in Santiago, Chile at the of October but it has now gone fully online. 400 papers are being presented over nine days, on different aspects of the Congress topic, “Aesthetic and Pedagogic Entanglements”. The biannual congress has been hosted all over the world but this is the first time in its 50 year history it is hosted in Latin America and the first time it is fully virtual. Members of the Children’s Literature and Literacies team; current and former PGR and PGT students from the MEd in Children’s Literature and Literacies, as well as from the International Masters Children’s Literature, Media and Culture, will be presenting individual and joint papers. Prof. Evelyn Arizpe, who is current IRSCL President, will be chairing the Past President’s Roundtable on the history and development of IRSCL to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the society. The congress theme highlights the importance of children’s texts and the theories and practices associated with them, not only for education but also for the arts and humanities.
