EDI Committee
Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity.
The School of Culture and Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow is committed to advancing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all our research, teaching, learning, administrative and professional activities. We endeavour to actively work towards embedding equality, diversity and inclusion in the School’s culture, and making the School and the University a good place to learn and work, inclusive and free from discrimination and unfair treatment. We fully subscribe to the University’s Equality Policy.
Our Vision and Mission Statement
The School’s EDI Committee was created in 2019 to act as an ambassador for equality, diversity and inclusion. Its remit, broadly conceived, is to identify and amplify good practice as well as areas of improvement, to lead on strategic initiatives within the School and to lobby for change in the wider College and University as appropriate.
The School received its Athena SWAN Bronze Award in July 2020. The Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in academia. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
We believe that the School of Culture and Creative Arts gains tremendously from our diverse communities of staff and students. The School’s research and teaching focus, covering Film and Television Studies, Cultural Policy, Theatre, Music, and History of Art, can only benefit from valuing, recognising and celebrating diversity in all its forms.
We want the School of Culture and Creative Arts to be an environment where diversity, equality and inclusion are practiced and celebrated and where everyone is treated fairly, regardless of gender, gender identity, disability, caring responsibilities, ethnicity or race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy/maternity, transgender status, age, nationality, socioeconomic background, neurodiversity or language. The School EDI Committee leads and supports our community of staff and students in working towards achieving this goal.
