The Oman Heart Association, in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health and the European Society of Hypertension, successfully hosted an update on cardiology at the annual Oman Heart Association meeting on November 1st and 2nd, 2024. The event, held in Muscat Oman, brought together leading experts and healthcare professionals from around the world to discuss the latest advances in the treatment of heart failure, hypertension, inherited cardiac conditions, biomarkers and lipids.

Professors Pardeep Jhund and John McMurray collaborated with the Oman Heart Association in developing the program with Dr Mohammed El-Deeb, Director of the Oman Heart Association and Dr Salim Al Maskry, President of the Oman Heart Association. Professors Jhund and McMurray provided updates on the latest treatments for heart failure, shared insights into future research directions, and offered interpretations of current clinical guidelines and their relevance to clinical practice. They also discussed the growing provision of cardiovascular care in the Middle East. 

The conference also featured contributions from faculty members of the European Society of Hypertension. These experts engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest hypertension guidelines, emphasizing the need for tailored treatment strategies to address the diverse needs of patients across different regions.

Attendees included healthcare professionals from across Oman and the Middle East, with delegates from Kuwait, UAE and Qatar. The event provided a valuable platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and fostering collaborations between the University of Glasgow and the Oman Heart Association.

The Oman Heart Association's commitment to promoting cardiovascular health and fostering international collaboration was evident throughout the conference as was the keen interest of the delegates in furthering their knowledge and improving patient care.
