Qiaoling Liu (Cedar) and Madeleine Hayman attend EASD 2024
Qiaoling Liu (Cedar) and Madeleine Hayman, PhD students in Paul Welsh’s group at the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health (SCMH), had their abstracts accepted for presentation at the 2024 European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) 60th conference in Madrid, one of the world’s largest diabetes conferences.
Cedar delivered two successful oral presentations using UK Biobank data: one on the association between glycaemic control and intraocular pressure, and another on long-term outcomes in type 2 diabetes. Madeleine presented her abstract titled “A trans-ancestry GLP1R candidate locus study for mental and physical health” and was also invited as first speaker at the dedicated Mental Illness and Metabolic Disease symposium.
Madeleine was awarded the Best Abstract Prize for an Early Career Researcher for her submission. As a prize recipient, she will receive free EASD membership for the coming year, along with complimentary registration for the 2025 EASD Annual Meeting in Vienna.
Prof. Paul Welsh remarked, “It’s fantastic to see our talented students so well represented at EASD, showcasing their research on a global stage.”
