Congratulations to Dr. Pierpaolo Pellicori for mentoring the next generation of reviewers.

Peer-review is an important component of the academic publishing, but it requires time, commitment, expertise and, importantly, experience

Last year, the Journal of Cardiac Failure, the official journal of the Heart Failure Society of America and the Japanese Heart Failure Society, launched the first “Reviewer Mentorship program”, where 13 early career mentees (out of 80 applicants) were selected and paired with 7 experienced international mentors, one of whom was our colleague Dr. Pellicori, a cardiologist and senior lecturer from the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health at the University of Glasgow.

A Message from Dr Pellicori:

“This programme is designed to help fellows develop their skills and confidence in reviewing a scientific manuscript, with guidance and feedback from an experienced researcher, author and reviewer. It was a great honour to be invited as one of a handful of mentors in this pilot initiative, during which we covered various aspects of the peer review process in a series of digital meetings. The exercise provided hands-on experience of reviewing papers submitted to the journal, guiding enthusiastic and talented junior colleagues from the around the world. Taking part in the programme has been a great learning and formative experience for me too!”

Watch this space; there might be a new call for the next cohort of reviewers very soon.
