Hypertension Awareness Events – Glasgow Blood Pressure Clinic Team
Published: 23 May 2024
Events ran in May for May Measurement Month and World Hypertension Day
We are thrilled to share the latest update from the Glasgow Blood Pressure Clinic team in their mission to raise awareness about hypertension. The team carried out three events on the 17th and 19th of May 2024), to coincide with May Measurement Month and World Hypertension Day. This was at the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Central Mosque, and Glasgow Gurdwara. The event was co-organised by our fantastic volunteers Nukman Salimin (3rd Year Medical Student, University of Glasgow) and Usmaan Razzaq (4th Year Medical Student, University of Glasgow) with guidance from Dr Stefanie Lip, Dr Linsay McCallum and Professor Sandosh Padmanabhan. The team of 41 volunteers measured blood pressures of 553 individuals. The events was supported by the British Heart Foundation.
The dedicated volunteer team included nurses (Glasgow Blood Pressure Clinic), research nurses (Glasgow Clinical Research Facility), medical students, nursing students, junior doctors, early career researchers and medical consultants all sharing a passion to improve cardiovascular health of the community.
One of the most rewarding aspects of these events has been hearing from participants who have made positive changes in their lives as a result of previous events. Many participants at the Glasgow Gurdwara shared that they have adapted their lifestyles and optimised the management of their blood pressure thanks to the team's outreach efforts. One member of the public informed
us that following the hypertension awareness event back in 2019, she managed to get her blood pressure under control and make active lifestyle choices. She proudly shared that her blood pressure, after starting medication, has been better than ever before.
We invite you to join us in our mission to improve health and wellbeing in our community. Whether you are a healthcare professional, a student, or simply someone passionate about making a difference, your contribution can have a lasting impact. Together, we can continue to raise awareness about hypertension and help more people lead healthier lives.
