Ross Hepburn- Technician Champion

Ross Hepburn shares his experience of being Technician Champion.
I wanted to share a bit about my experience as a Technician Champion here at the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health. Being part of this amazing network has been a fantastic opportunity to support and represent our technician community both within our school and across the university.
As Technician Champions, we focus on promoting the key themes of the Technician Commitment: visibility, recognition, career development, and sustainability. Basically, we’re here to make sure that technicians are seen, heard, and valued.
In my role, I get to work with other Champions, technical colleagues, and the Technician Commitment Steering Group to come up with actions that boost technician engagement. This means keeping the communication flowing between technicians and senior managers, sharing best practices, and finding new ways to support our community.
One of the newest parts of being a Technician Champion is my involvement in the newsletter committee. Our newsletter, which will be out this summer, will feature success stories, highlights, and resources for technical staff, and celebrate the incredible work being done in our community. It’s a great way to keep everyone informed and connected.
Being a Technician Champion has helped me develop my communication and leadership skills, build a strong network with colleagues and stakeholders, and raise the profile of our technician community. It’s a chance to make a real difference and ensure that technicians get the recognition and support they deserve.
If you’re passionate about advocating for technicians and want to contribute to our vibrant community, I highly recommend becoming a Technician Champion. Together, we can drive positive change and support the ongoing development of our technician roles within higher education.
