Which included the Elizabeth Stanfield Bell Wilson Scholarship Award
This year’s Graham Wilson Travelling Scholarship Award Presentations were held on the 24th April 2024 at the BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, chaired by Professor Christian Delles.
The Scholarship was created to honour the late Professor Graham Wilson. The Scholarship is held by the Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Endowment Funds office and offers support to the junior members of staff and students who wish to visit a centre in the UK or abroad to learn specific clinical or research techniques, particularly those transferable to Glasgow. Professor Wilson’s principal interests were in clinical pharmacology, hypertension, endocrinology/metabolism, gastroenterology, and medical education. More than one Scholarship is awarded each year, each having a maximum of £1000.
This year’s Graham Wilson Travelling Scholarship awardees were Iain Black, Eleanor Dickson-Murray, Narinder Kaur, Eilidh MacDonald, Sheon Samji. The Elizabeth Stanfield Bell Wilson awardee was Robert Sykes. The awards were presented by Dr John Wilson who spoke on the work of his parents and he also added the fun-factor of a quiz during the meeting. The audience, including the Wilson Family, listened to presentations from previous years’ awardees: Cara Trivett and Sol Oliviera. The opportunity for people to meet with the Wilson Family before and after the presentations was welcomed by all.
Prof Delles highlighted that the Scholarship is extremely valuable for young researchers in SCMH, and we are very grateful to be able to offer the opportunity to our community. Applications are requested once a year and should be made on a standard proforma available form Dorothy Ronney, School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, (telephone: 0141 330 2397/ email: Dorothy.Ronney@Glasgow.ac.uk).
