Some of our BHF PhD students were given the opportunity to write a Journal Club or Tools of Trade article for Nature Reviews Cardiology. This was part of a programme partnership between the BHF and Nature Review Cardiology. Well done to all our students who took part and were published, we can’t wait to read your articles!

Rebecca Gilchrist

Rebecca Gilchrist “I thoroughly enjoyed writing this article and found the experience of drafting a journal article then responding to Editor's comments extremely useful. I chose to discuss an influential study, written by Rosenbaum and colleagues in 1982, which established the concept of cardiac memory. Understanding the concept of cardiac memory and its implications have led to important advances in the field, and has also influenced my own PhD project.”

Cara Trivett

Cara Trivett "Following a collaboration with the BHF and the editorial team at NR Cardiology, we discussed the potential of long read sequencing to generate reference quality genomes for human and animal models in cardiovascular disease. "

Sol Oliveira

Sol Olivera "Writing this Tools of Trade article for Nature Reviews Cardiology has been an exciting experience. Alongside my supervisor Dr Delyth Graham, we summarised how we use our rat model of superimposed preeclampsia to study the offspring's impact after an adverse in utero environment. Briefly, we have shown that the offspring born after dams exposed to angiotensin II show a worsened cardiovascular phenotype compared to controls. This exciting finding allows us to look at the links between preeclampsia and the cardiovascular programming of the offspring in more detail.
I feel honoured to have been offered this opportunity and I am excited to share more of my research in the near future."
