When will I receive my bursary payments?

Bursary payments are made on the last Friday of each month. For eligible students, the first payment will normally be made on 30 October if you have been sent an award letter in early October. If you do not receive your award letter till November, you first payment will be on the 27^th of November, any backdated payments from the scholarship will also be paid out on this date.

How will I know if I have been awarded the bursary?

The Scholarships Team will contact eligible students directly, usually in late September or early October, to confirm their award.

What happens if my Student Finance assessment is delayed?

If your Student Finance assessment has not been completed by the start of the academic year. We run our bursary assessment process in both October and November, so students whose funding information is not available during the first assessment run can still be considered in the second round. If you are eligible, you will still receive the bursary once your household income information has been provided to us by your student finance provider.

Can I receive the bursary if I study abroad?

Yes. Students undertaking an approved study abroad period can continue to receive the RUK Bursary, provided they continue to meet all other eligibility criteria.

What happens if I repeat a year?

Students who repeat a year of study or undertake an exam-only year will not normally receive the bursary during that year. However, we understand that circumstances can sometimes be beyond your control. If you have approved extenuating circumstances, your eligibility may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Will I receive the bursary every year?

The bursary is intended to support you throughout your studies and will normally be renewed automatically each year. To continue receiving the bursary, you must remain eligible, complete your annual registration, and successfully progress to the next academic year of your programme.

How is household income assessed?

To be considered for the RUK Bursary, you must be in receipt of a the full means-tested student loan from Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, or Student Finance Northern Ireland. The University receives your household income information directly from your student finance provider once it has been verified. We are unable to assess household income independently, so you must complete the income assessment process with your student finance provider to be considered for the bursary.

Do I need to register to receive the bursary?

Yes. You must complete both your academic and financial registration on MyCampus by the relevant registration deadline. Bursary awards cannot be deferred to a future academic year.

What happens if I have a free year?

The RUK Bursary is not paid during any academic year where full tuition fees are not charged, including any designated free year.

Can my bursary be withdrawn?

The University reserves the right to amend, suspend, or withdraw the bursary if you no longer meet the eligibility criteria, if incorrect information has been provided, or if funding arrangements change.
