ABOUT THE PAPER

This paper will use an interdisciplinary research approach to explore the impact of livestock farming on the landscape across 1300-1800 in the uplands of northwest Europe.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Costello has been based at University College Cork since January. He is a Lecturer in Environmental History and a founding member of the Radical Humanities Laboratory. He is interested in the history of farming and the interaction between farmers, landscape and climate in the longue durée. Regarding his research approach, Dr. Costello says 'I would consider myself both a historian and an archaeologist and try to use multiple sources in my research.'

He maintains a part-time position at Stockholm University, where he is Principal Investigator of a Swedish Research Council-funded project called 'Feeding Capitalism and Facing it's Consequences? Upland Pastoralism in Ireland and Sweden'.
