Short Description

The course will provide students with knowledge and information around various inherent and environmental factors to consider in the preparation of athletes for competition.

Timetable

Teaching takes place over 30 hours in Semester 1 with students attending lectures, tutorials, practical classes and workshops.

  • 50% Editorial (1000 words)
  • 50% Presentation (10-15 minutes including critical analysis of current literature)

Course Aims

This course aims to provide students with a critical understanding of what factors (individual, physical, environmental, clinical conditions) may influence sport and exercise performance. It will also explore how these factors can be harness or mitigated to enhance and improve performance.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate factors which influence performance (individual, physical, environmental).
  • Critically discuss specific individual factors which influence performance including mental health and clinical conditions in athletes.
  • Critically evaluate performance enhancing and mitigation strategies based on these factors.
  • Undertake practical sessions exploring the efficacy of strategies that influence performance.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course’s summative assessment.
