Why did you chose to study this programme?
I chose to study International Human Resource Management & Development as it offers both management and development areas of international human resources, which are two essential parts that are applied closely in most organisations. I had been working in hospitality management for more than five years and was keen to learn more about human resource development in particular, as staff retention is an issue in the sector. I didn’t want to study pure human resource management; I needed both.
What are you enjoying so far?
I have been able to develop my critical thinking skills across all academic activities. I’ve learned about different cultures and how personnel management is carried out in various countries, adapting to globalisation. In class, we explore things from the perspectives of both public and private sectors, we develop human resource interventions and hear about real-life experiences from guest lecturers. It has also given me the opportunity to broaden my network through the CIPD student membership.
Why would you recommend it to prospective students?
This MSc includes areas in human resources that are crucial to prepare ourselves as professional practitioners. Materials taught are exigent and highly relevant for future work and it is fully accredited by CIPD.

Why did you choose to study this programme?
Features such as the small multi-cultural class, the international orientation of the programme as well as its CIPD accreditation were important. I also liked how it is an advanced HR programme, as I already gained some human resource experience during my undergraduate studies and internships in human resource development (HRD) and wanted to broaden by knowledge. Additionally, the mix of courses that focus extensively on both human resource management and human resource sevelopment related subjects. During my search for a suitable postgraduate programme this was the only degree that looks at HRD in depth. Courses like International human resource development and Knowledge management and organisational learning really appealed to me.
What are you enjoying so far?
I am particularly enjoying the various class discussions, revealing the perspectives of my fellow class mates, which has helped me to consider other viewpoints and to see things differently. I have been able to further develop my critical thinking skills, which I am certain will help me in my future career. Until now, I always felt like my knowledge in HRM theories was lacking. Different classes like HRM in context and “trategic HRM have provided me with extensive HRM knowledge.
Why would you recommend it to prospective students?
In my opinion, this programme is the perfect opportunity to build on and expand your existing HR and HRD knowledge. The class discussions and group work with your fellow students (from all over the world, with different levels of experience and backgrounds) will provide you with a whole new international perspective. The courses and taught content are highly relevant featuring current issues in HR, and the lecturers always bring in their own expertise by relating to real business cases, which makes it a very practical degree too. The CIPD student membership is like the icing on the cake, offering conferences to attend and providing you with interesting research and useful data and statistics.
