Short Description
This course will cover the students participation in an industrial placement. The placement will include both taught and practical components.
Timetable
Full-time over weeks 1-7 of semester 2. This will involve teaching sessions as part of the Biocon Academy Certificate programme and work-based training.

Assessment
The project assessment will consist of the following components:
- Weekly reflective analysis of skills development (30%) – ILO 5
- Biocon Academy mentor report (10%) – ILO 7
- Written report (60%) – ILO’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 6
Course Aims
- The course aims to give students practical experience in carrying out industrial biotechnology in a workplace environment. During the placement the students will undertake training at Biocon Academy for the “Certificate Programme in Faculty Development”. In addition, the students will gain experiential learning through exposure and training within the Biocon manufacturing facility, quality control and R&D labs.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- Develop skills to relate scientific principles to the practices of industry.
- Critically analyse the latest technologies and processes being deployed by industry.
- Evaluate the use of equipment at manufacturing facilities.
- Critically evaluate international regulations for quality, research and development.
- Self-evaluate their own learning and acquired knowledge and skills gained through the placement.
- Present in written form an assessment of the placement and produce a report to a professional standard in appropriate scientific style.
- Plan and manage time effectively by prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course’s summative assessment.
