Short Description
This course will deliver an introduction to the fundamentals of management and leadership in health services, which are integral to undertaking the Masters in Health Service Management Programme.

Assessment
The summative assessment will take the form of a 1,500-word essay/report (excluding references) and a 1,000-word reflective diaries based on the weekly lecture material. The grades are split 80%-20%.
Are reassessment opportunities available for all summative assessments? No
Reassessment is not offered for the reflective diary, in which case the mark achieved at the first attempt will be counted towards the final course grade. One reassessment is available for the written assignment.
Course Aims
This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the fundamentals of management and leadership in health services, which are integral to undertaking the Masters in Health Services Management Programme
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of this course students will be able to:
■ Critically assess the role of management and leadership in health services.
■ Critically evaluate the organisation and delivery of health care services.
■ Critically appraise the principles underlying the development of health services and health service policy, including issues relating to health economics, equity, and clinical governance.
■ Critically evaluate and apply the principles of quality assurance, clinical governance, and risk management in health services.
■ Critically appraise health intelligence data used in health service quality and improvement activities.
Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits
Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
