In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) at the University of Glasgow, is hosting a conference on ‘Enabling Inclusive Growth.’
Free and open to the public, top academics and policy makers have been invited to participate in the conference which includes roundtable discussions with the Secretary of State for International Development, Douglas Alexander MP and a keynote address by the President of African Development Bank and graduate of the University, Donald Kaberuka.
Inclusive growth aims to generate benefits throughout society, including to the poor and those often excluded and marginalised. It is not a process of 'trickling down' and therefore raises important challenges for its implementation in a world of increasing globalization.
Conference organiser, Dr Norbert Fiess said: "We have put together an exciting programme which will appeal not only to development experts but also to the general public. Particularly, the keynote speech by Dr Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank, and a roundtable discussion with Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State, present a great opportunity to hear from leading experts on a highly topical issue, which concerns us all."
Professor Farhad Noorbakhsh, Head of Economics, and founding member of CDS is looking forward to the celebrations: "I am particularly proud to welcome back former students as guests and speakers at conference, who by now have reached senior positions in the field of international development."
Dr Alberto Paloni, Director of the CDS, said: “Since our establishment in 1983, over 1,000 students have graduated from the CDS and proceeded to successful careers in international organisations, academia and research institutions.”
The conference will take place at the University of Glasgow on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 June in the Sir Charles Wilson Building main lecture theatre, and is free and open to the public.
