Lonely Planet has produced a guide for prospective students from around the World who are interested in studying at the University of Glasgow.
Lonely Planet, in association with the University of Glasgow, has produced a guide for prospective students from around the World who are interested in studying at the University.
“Study Glasgow” highlights all that Scotland’s largest city has to offer, from its friendly people and buzzing nightlife, to adventure sports and cultural gems, enabling those who are considering undertaking a course at the University to get
a taste of what the city is like to live in.
Lonely Planet author and University of Glasgow graduate, James Bainbridge, researched and wrote the majority of the book. He said that he was “blown away” by how much the city had changed since he graduated in 1998, adding: “Of course, everyone has pride in the university they went to, but I really can’t think of anywhere I would’ve rather gone. The West End is such a beautiful area with all its parks and hills covered in sandstone tenements, and there’s always something to do at night in the City Centre.”
The guide is also interspersed with “Student Voices”. These brief interviews give a personal insight into what some of the university-goers get up to when they’re not studying as well as all their favourite hangouts.
Sir Muir Russell, Principal of the University of Glasgow, said: “This unique guide will give prospective students a real flavour of what studying at this University is all about. It captures the spirit of Glasgow and gives an insider’s view of one the most exciting cities in the UK. We are extremely pleased to be the first British university to link with Lonely Planet in this way.”
Filippo Trevisan, Vice-President of the University’s Student Representative Council, said: “As an international student who chose Glasgow for further studies after attending three other universities, I have learnt ‘in the field’ that Glasgow offers a terrific student experience. Lonely Planet has been able to portray all this very successfully. Choosing a university is a complicated affair and hopefully this publication will help students make the right decision.”
Lonely Planet’s B2B Product Manager, Matt Gibbs, added: “Study Glasgow is a project which shows the University of Glasgow to be forward thinking and innovative in attracting prospective students.”
The custom print 48-page guidebook will be distributed to thousands of prospective students around the globe, starting at the University of Glasgow’s Open Day on Thursday 19th June. There will be an initial print run of 120,000 copies.
