The Leukaemia Research Fund Glasgow Bikeathon 2004
59 members of the same family, a 72-year old bike doctor and a unicyclist are just some of the participants in this year's Leukaemia Research Fund (LRF) Bikeathon, to be held in the West End of Glasgow on Sunday August 29.
The University of Glasgow is working with the Leukaemia Research Fund to provide a major new research centre in the heart of Glasgow's medical community. The new centre will be based at Gartnavel hospital, housing world class researchers who will be working to find a cure for leukaemia. As part of the on-going fundraising campaign the LRF Glasgow Bikeathon is a fun family event where participants can cycle either 13 or 26 miles over a pre-determined, stewarded route, starting and finishing in Kelvingrove Park in the west end of Glasgow. Last year over 350 cyclists took part and raised over £33,000 in sponsorship. Over £1.95 million of the overall £2.25 million target has already been reached
Thomas Horton took part in last year's event and completed 26 miles on his unicycle. This year he has decided to take part again but "The Wan Wheel Warrior" will be sticking to 13 miles!
It costs £5 to enter for adults, and £2 for children. Children must be over 7 years old, and all under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. All entrants receive a t-shirt in their entry pack, refreshments on the day and a commemorative medal at the finish line.
Not only are we looking for entrants on 29th August, we also require stewards (with and without bikes) to help on the day. Please let us know if you can help, or if you know of someone who can. We have a huge variety of jobs available to suit all skills!
