Events 

  • Spring Fling programme now live, 7-18 April, ARC- the days are getting longer, and the weather is getting warmer, meaning that spring is here! The ARC’s annual Spring Fling is jam-packed with events inspired by ’Space and Place’. Join us for exhibitions and workshop about Peking Opera and movie screenings of ‘River is an Engine’ about the infrastructural and colonial histories of the River Clyde and the Oscar nominated animation ‘The Wild Robot’. The university’s own science communications master's students are also presenting a series of workshops on fitness, DNA and planting.  

Funding 

  • Glasgow Knowledge Exchange Fund, call now open, deadline Thursday 15 May, 11am - an internal investment fund by the University to support research staff to deliver knowledge exchange activities and impact generated from UofG research. At present, the funding streams GKE Flexible Fund and GKE Enabling Fund are open! Projects funded by GKE Flexible Fund are expected to cost up to £30,000 and to last for 6 months. Projects funded by GKE Enabling Fund are open to UofG staff at early stage of research independence with projects having max cost up to £15,000 and a maximum duration of 6 months. 
  • Scotland Beyond Net Zero seed fund open now, deadline Friday 23 May, 5pm - new seed funding to help research collaborations across Scottish universities to address key environmental and climate challenges. Awards up to £15k per project, the fund supports initiatives that align with SBNZ’s core themes of food, finance, built environment, natural systems, energy, and transport. As with the previous fund, it will fund collaboration across at least two SBNZ university members who are participating in the fund. Projects should include clear plans for co-creation, engagement or partnership with at least one other organisation. 

Awards 

  • The John Maddox Prize - Standing up for science. Nominations and self-applications open now, deadline Wednesday 30 April. The John Maddox Prize recognizes researchers who stand up and speak out for science and evidence-based policy, advancing public discussion around difficult topics, despite challenges or hostility, and successfully making a change in public discourse or policy. There are two award categories: the Maddox prize and the early career award. The prize looks for people actively working in public and influencing public policy, practice and opinion. Winners will receive 5,000 EUR, an invitation to the award ceremony in London with expenses covered, and coverage on Nature.com.
