We were delighted to regain our Higher Education social media crown this month – with UofG being named the most influential University in the UK on social media, writes Emma Gilmartin, Social & Digital Media Manager.

This is credit to the hard work and creativity of the team but also collaboration with colleagues and students across the University. We’re so lucky at UofG that there are so many amazing stories to tell on our channels.

Engagement levels in recent weeks have consistently surpassed that of the likes of Oxbridge, which is something we’re particularly proud of considering their millions of followers!

Social media team in ManchesterIn other social media news, we were thrilled to be invited down to the University of Manchester last week and run a session with staff tasked with creating and delivering a social and digital media strategy for their library services department.

Dan Marrable and I, and the fantastic Louise Annan (who runs UofG’s library social media channels) shared with Manchester how we build and manage the social media community at UofG, how we put a real emphasis on digital content creation and what tools we use to produce our content. Louise also talked about the library’s content strategy and how she fits under the overarching UofG social brand but has developed a distinct style and voice for the library’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook profiles.

We had a great day in Manchester and learnt lots ourselves that we’ll put into practice here!
