The Data Protection and Freedom of Information Office is encouraging University of Glasgow staff members to take a short online data protection training module as a way of brushing up their knowledge of this piece of legislation, which governs the protection of personal data in the UK.

The module was created by Edinburgh Napier University with funding from the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, for use in the Scottish Higher Education sector.

You can read more about the topic and find the training module here:

www.gla.ac.uk/services/dpfoioffice/dataprotectiononlinetrainingmodule/

The course provides a basic introduction to the Data Protection Act 1998 and should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. There are some quick quiz questions to answer throughout and then a short test at the end.

Topics covered include data protection principles, subject rights, and data security. The Data Protection and Freedom of Information Office is promoting the training module because practical data protection knowledge is beneficial to all staff regardless of role.

Further in-depth training is available through Staff Development Services (SDS).
