Tessa Holyoake, Professor of Experimental Haematology at the Paul O’Gorman Leukaemia Research Centre, was honoured at the recent Lord Provosts’s Awards.
Bob Winter, Lord Provost of Glasgow, presented Tessa the prestigious Health Award at the reception in the City Chambers on 12 May.
The Lord Provost Awards are made annually to recognise the men and women who have dedicated their professional lives to public service, worked selflessly for their communities or distinguished themselves in business, the arts, sport or entertainment.
Among other recipients of the awards were actor Robbie Coltrane, business woman Michelle Mone and Mary’s Meals, a school meals programme that helps to feed over half a million children worldwide.
Speaking at the event, the Lord Provost said: “I always look forward to this event. It is a great occasion and a wonderful way to honour people from diverse walks of life, all of whom have one thing in common – a commitment to Glasgow and its people.
“It is entirely appropriate that we publicly express our gratitude to these outstanding men and women by celebrating their achievements with a civic dinner.”
